How to play Cryptogram

All words belong to the displayed category. Matching symbols always stand for the same letter. A letter never stands for itself.

Time starts when you first select a tile. Select a tile and a letter on screen or on your keyboard. Clear with ⌫ or Delete. Accented letters are distinct characters. Each letter can be assigned only once.

🔒 Green givens and ✦ gold hints are locked. ✎ Blue entries can be changed. Check reports only the number of incorrect assignments.

A hint costs 10% of base points, a check 3%. Solving it yourself earns at least 20%. Time and incorrect entries do not cost points. Show solution ends the puzzle without points.

Saving is optional. When enabled, results, repeat prevention and progress stay on your device, separately for each language. A saved game lasts 24 hours. The permanent puzzle ID opens the same ciphertext as a new game. Difficulty levels still need human playtesting.
